Product Design
A personal budget planner app, designed to assist users to manage their finances efficiently.
• Solo designer
• Personal project.
To develop this app, it was decided to use the Elements of User Experience from Jesse
James Garrett.
This methodology takes the whole concept from the Strategy, the most abstract part of a project, until the final step, the Surface, which is the concrete result.
Product objectives:
• Design a cross-platform product (desktop, mobile, etc.)...
• ...that allows users to manage their finances.
• Users should be able to easily create and adjust budgets to reach their savings goals.
• The budget planner should integrate with banks and financial tools to give users an instant overview of their spending habits across various accounts.
• Consider how this data could be implemented to enable users to plan their expenses...
• ...customize saving targets, and...
• ...view account reports (for example) on a monthly or yearly basis.
User needs:
I sent a questionnaire to people from my social circle that use different budget planning platforms to understand their needs.
1. What made you look for a budget planner?
2. Why do you use this specific planner?
3. What do you like the most? What would you improve/fix on it?
4. Have you ever tried another budget planner? If yes, why did you change?
Gathering all the data (from 5 users), I could understand a bit more about the needs of this type of user and create a user story.
User story:
As a user,
I want to organize, plan and visualize my finances easily,
so I can achieve my financial goals.
Competitor analysis:
I also explored different budget planners to understand what exists today on the market.
What is the scope of this project?
Based on the product needs, it must:

• Plan expenses;
• Customize saving targets;
• Integrate with banks/financial tools;
• Have a spending overview;
• Having the possibility of checking reports;
• It needs to be reachable in different channels (mobile, tablet, desktop).
